Kava Kava
If you have had the chance to visit Hawaii or one of the other islands in the South Pacific, there's a good chance you've come in contact with kava kava. Kava is an essential and integral part of life in the Pacific Islands and is often thought of as one of the most precious gifts from the Earth. Not only is Kava Kava a pleasant drink that can be a safe alternative to alcohol, but Kava Kava has been prescribed as an effective folk remedy for anxiety, insomnia, and back pain.Kava kava is largely used as a celebratory drink. It is used in much the same way that alcohol is used in the West. It marks celebratory events such as weddings, public festivals, and holidays, and it is even used in ceremonies honoring the dead. Unlike alcohol, kava does not produce or stimulate aggression, and it does not condemn the user to the dreaded hangover. Many people find other medicinal uses for kava kava. It is interesting to note that kava has been shown to help ease anxiety, depression, and to help produce restful sleep. It is used by athletes as well as businessmen to help "take the edge off" and focus concentration.
Frequently Asked Questions About KavaQ: Is it addictive? Kava has not been shown to be physically addictive. It has been used safely for over 3,000 years, without any reported withdrawal symptoms whatsoever. Q: What does it do?
This natural herbal drink relaxes muscles.
Calms nerves.
Creates a general feeling of well-being.
Induces a feeling of peace, relaxation and contentment.
It enhances mental alertness and concentration.
Q: Can I take it anytime of the day?In the South Pacific drinking kava is mostly used for ceremonial, recreational, and social purposes. Kava is consumed at the end of the workday, and the ritual of kava preparation and drinking affords both a social time and an opportunity for individual meditation. In our hectic modern society "kava time" is anytime. The lack of mental slowing allows kava to be used during the day especially when we find ourselves anxious or in stressful situations like:
Going on a date
Visiting the dentist
Giving a presentation
Attending a party
Business meetings
Going on a interview
Boarding a plane
Taking exams
And for the most part kava is best consumed after work, the overall effect is delightful, pleasurable, relaxing, happy, peaceful with complete mental alertness. When kava is taken before bedtime, it induces a restful sleep and a refreshed feeling after awakening.Q: Does kava have side effects?Kava produces no side effects when taken in moderate doses, its abuse can lead to health problems. Heavy abusers studied suffered from shortness of breath, dry scaly skin, and slight alterations in red and white blood cells and platelets. The reports of liver damage have widely been dismissed and even the country that hosted the study has repealed their ban on Kava Kava because it has been proven a safe and effective herbal product for almost any age.Q: How much can I drink? Can I overdose on it?The most significant anti-anxiety studies show that an effective daily dose of kava is 70-210 milligrams of kavalactones. The amount of kava to take depends on your purpose for using it and your individual sensitivity to the effects of kavalactones.Death or severe illness from exclusive use of kava has not been reported in any medical literature.Q: Is it safe?Whenever you first try a new medicine, herb, or supplement, it is always best to start with low dosages and build up. Kava, if used appropriately, can reduce the stress in our lives. It can also be used to decrease or prevent the amount of stress or anxiety we anticipate to be exposed to. Studies show the occasional use of kava presents no health problems . Years of use in Germany have produced no reports of troublesome drug interactions as well.
If you have any questions or concerns about your health or possible interactions with prescription medications, simply consult your doctor.
Many people find other medicinal uses for kava kava. It is interesting to note that kava has been shown to help ease anxiety, depression, and to help produce restful sleep. It is used by athletes as well as businessmen to help "take the edge off" and focus concentration.

When Francesco Rovero first saw the image captured by one of his automatic cameras in a remote Tanzanian forest, he knew he’d never seen anything quite like it.
It was the size of a small dog, covered in orange and gray fur, and had a long snout like an elephant. Its markings and general appearance suggested it was a member of the elephant-shrew family, called a sengi in Swahili. Today, the Journal of Zoology reports that Rovero discovered a new species of giant elephant-shrew.
Rovero of Italy's Trento Museum of Natural Sciences was documenting elusive forest animals deep in the Ndunlulu Forest of Tanzania's Udzungwa Mountains. The Udzungwas are part of a series of ancient and isolated mountains stretching from southern Kenya to south-central Tanzania. Rovero's cameras captured lions and antelope, as he expected, but this was something different.
Rovero sent the photos to Galen Rathbun of the California Academy of Sciences for identification, who confirmed that the colorful animal appeared to be a new species.
With funding from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), the National Geographic Society, and Trento Museum of Natural Sciences, they embarked on a two-week expedition with a team of colleagues to confirm the discovery. The expedition team captured four specimens of the animal.
"This new discovery highlights how exceptionally important the Udzungwa Mountain rain forests are, and how little we know about them," Rovero said.
The new species, named the gray-faced sengi (Rhynchocyon udzungwensis), weighs about 1.5 pounds, 25 percent larger than any other member of the elephant-shrew family. It is known to exist in only two groups in a 115-square-mile area of this largely unexplored forest.
Scientists report that its relatives include elephants, manatees, and the aardvark. In recent years, a number of other new species have been discovered here, including the Udzungwa partridge, a monkey known as the kipunji, and several amphibians and reptiles.
"This is one of the most exciting discoveries of my career," said Rathbun of the California Academy of Sciences. "It is the first new species of giant elephant-shrew to be discovered in more than 126 years. From the moment I first lifted one of the animals into our photography tent, I knew it must be a new species."

Blitz Tom Brady.
Attack the perimeter defensively with tosses and stretch plays designed to exploit New England's aged linebacker corps.
Try taking advantage of Patriots safeties with seam and crossing routes in the middle of the field.
Blah, blah, blah.
For 18 games, NFL analysts have espoused different theories about how New England can be defeated. None of them have worked well enough to topple the Patriots entering Sunday's Super Bowl XLII matchup against the New York Giants.
"I hear everybody every week, 'Oh, there's the blueprint,'" CBS announcer Phil Simms said. "Really? I love that."
When the Patriots first started rolling toward their 18-0 record, New England lacked a dominating rushing attack. Laurence Maroney had struggled upon his return from an early season groin injury that sidelined him for three contests, while backup Sammy Morris was placed on injured reserve shortly after 100-yard performances in Weeks 4 and 5.
During an eight-game span, the Patriots failed to exceed 90 rushing yards five times. New England didn't even bother trying to pound Pittsburgh's top-ranked run defense in December, rushing just nine times in a 34-13 victory.
But as the weather conditions got colder, Maroney heated up. He has topped the century mark in four of New England's past five games, including consecutive 122-yard outings in playoff victories over Jacksonville and San Diego.
Still, Maroney doesn't believe he has earned respect as a dangerous offensive weapon.
"Coming into this game, all you hear is about stopping Brady and the passing," said Maroney, who was held to 46 yards on 19 carries in New England's season-finale against the Giants. "I like the way that sounds.
"I'm not going to complain. I want them to keep thinking that way and everybody to just forget about the running game, because it makes it better for me. I can just slide in, slip through a couple cracks and be all right."
All has remained right with New England's passing offense, even when teams have focused on shutting down Moss. He had only one catch in each of the Patriots' two playoff games, which is Moss' least-productive stretch of the season.
But players like Wes Welker (16 receptions) and running back Kevin Faulk (13) have picked up the slack. Brady has completed 78.7 percent of his throws — a 10 percent increase from his brilliant regular season — and remains well protected. He has gotten sacked just three times on 64 postseason pass attempts.
"At any given point, you never know who can be the guy to make the play," said wide receiver Donte' Stallworth, who has five catches for 79 yards in the playoffs. "Tom is always going to find the open guy. If a team wants to take away one thing from our offense, we have other options."
New England's defense also has shown the ability to adjust. The pass defense sprung a leak in late November against Philadelphia, as Eagles backup quarterback A.J. Feeley almost led an upset by throwing for 345 yards and three touchdowns. The Patriots were then gouged for consecutive 100-yard rushing games by Baltimore's Willis McGahee (138) and Pittsburgh's Willie Parker (124).
Adalius Thomas is a part of an experienced linebacking crew. (Jim Rogash / Getty Images)
"All year, it's been, 'Something is wrong with the defense,'" Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfork said. "Whether it's stopping the run, covering in the back, the linebackers being too old, we heard it all. We still managed to be at the top of the league in everything defensively."
New England shored its run defense by adjusting to the November loss of outside linebacker Rosevelt Colvin. Adalius Thomas settled in as Colvin's replacement and 39-year-old Junior Seau held up while receiving more snaps at inside linebacker.
"The experience of Adalius and Junior really helped," Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi said. "When you go from inside to outside in the middle of a season, it could be difficult. We were able to do it sort of seamlessly."
New England's secondary can still be victimized — New York quarterback Eli Manning had four touchdown passes in the season finale. But the Patriots have made amends by forcing turnovers (four interceptions in the past three games) and stinginess in the red zone. San Diego was forced to settle for field goals on three trips inside the Patriots' 8-yard line, which spelled the difference in New England's 21-12 victory.
"We feel like we were a big part of that win, as we were in many other wins," Patriots defensive end Ty Warren said. "It was overlooked because of what the offense was doing."
So does New England have any weaknesses that could lead to its downfall?
Simms said the Patriots have "some holes in their secondary" and are susceptible to big plays. Giants defensive players also believe they can have success, provided New York can again contain New England's running game and better pressure Brady.
"People have taken different approaches," Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo said. "Nobody's going to rediscover any special defenses now. It comes down to picking what you want to do against them based on the players you have.
"They pose a lot of problems. It's a challenge our guys want to take on."

80sRocker,1) The coach was caught cheating not the players. Outside of Rodney Harrison the rest of NE's roster has players that are honorable. In Vegas! Yeah that's comparable. Cheating in Vegas is stealing money, whihc is a criminal offense. Using a camcorder is nothing like committing a felony. Otherwise your mom and I would be in jail. oops we cheated.2) Losing a first round draft pick is an unprecedented punishment. It's never been levied on a team in the NFL. Half a million dollar fine. Bet that doesn't hurt. And then fine the team a quarter mil. You'd rather them forfeit the season. This isn't the NC2BLEEP s...3) This is not a point. You repeated #1 because you can't think of a third reason. Now go cut your mullet!

Cheating is wrong. It shouldn't happen in sports and if we can stop it let's stop it. The fact is if it happened to anyone writing in they wouldn't like it and would probably scream like babies.Everyone says that every team does it but so far in the history of the NFL only one team has been caught and penalized for it. The Patriots! If cheating is useless and it didn't help the Patriots then why did Belichek feel compelled to do it to every team including the lowly Jets? Because he's a coward and a liar. The Patrtiots wouldn't have cheated if hey didn't think it would help them win. If it did help them in any way their whole season is questionable. You can thank the arrogant insecure Belichek for creating a blight on his team, the NFL and the game. It's poetic justice and it may be the only justice this crime gets.It takes more than winning to be great.

I love this talk about cheating marring the integrity of a sports team. Do Little League Baseball coaches tell their players to inform the umpires that they are really out when they are called safe? Has there ever been a basketball player who admits to commiting a foul when it is not intentional? Why do I know of the baseball term 'stealing signs.' Why do football coaches with their headsets on put the playcard over their mouth? Is there a different standard for cheating depending on which side of the bed you get up on? Can a multi-million dollar athelete be blamed for taking steroids so he can heal from injury faster or prolong his career? Barry Bonds, The Patriots and all lessor known accused, including my hometown baseball little league may have t

billium99Conjecture? Of course it's conjecture since neither one of us knows Belichek personally. But reasonable conjecture based on past behavior. (trplcrn5 makes some interesting points) Arguing how many times they ran up the score is like arguing how man times they got caught cheating. Isn't it conjecture on yor part when you suggest everyone is cheating? I haven't seen anyone or any other team penalized for cheating ever, except the Pats. Now it seems that they were cheating at other SBs.What if they're exceptional record is partly due to videotaping other teams signals? Bottom line this is all the result of a tremendous lack of character. This is what happens when winning is everything.I think it's sad that what could have been an amazing season is tainted forever because a coach is so insecure.

Everyone is misssing 3 points about Spygate:1) Once a cheater always a cheater. In Vegas if you are caught cheating you are put on a black list and banned from all the casinos. The minute BB was caught cheating it naturally brings into quesiton how many other times he has cheated and what other ways has he cheated and just not been caught. This puts an asterik by any other games he has won including the previous 3 superbowls.2) The NFL's punishement was a joke. Here is a league that suspends players for off-field offenses that have nothign to do with fottball (DUI's, Domestic Violence, etc) and then they give a slap on the wrist for cheating which directly affect the integrity of the game and the league. BB should have been suspended 4-6 weeks and they should have forfeited the game they were caught cheating in. This would have sent a message that cheating (in an form) was a serious offense and had major consequences.3) If BB is such a great coach as people are saying, why did he have to push the bounderies of the rules (aka: cheat) to get an advantage over a team they should have beaten easily without cheating. Bottom line: Great coaches DO NOT cheat in any way.I used to like BB, but now I have lost a lot of respect for him. IMO he will never be as great a coach as Tom Laundry, Vince Lombardi, Tony Dungy. These coaches were not only great football mind, but they also were class acts and had morals. It is a sad day in American when we can let a team get away with cheating. Their perfect record is a joke becuase of it.

Hmm - Chechmeister, I don't presume to know the intentions of Bill Bellicheck. There were only a handful of games where there was even a question about whether it was appropriate for them to keep scoring. Sportsmanship is one thing, but this sounds like conjecture. They scored not to run off the clock, as I suggest, but to punish the NFL? Conjecture. At least once this year I watched them go for it on 4th down, and then kneel.Notice how few fights started late in games where they were alledged to have "run up the score". Unsportsmanlike is to run up the score and then do a dance in the end-zone and start a fight.I've watched my Broncos blow leads by running it on 3rd and 9 in the third quarter to run time off the clock. The only time I've seen the Patriots keep scoring is when their opponent cont6inues to threaten and score. Even up by 17 points, if the opposing team isn't sitting down - if they are taking chances to still try and score and win, then I say let Brady throw a 5th touchdown pass.Way too much conjecture about the character of the people involved.Bellicheck does seem arrogant when he's forced to answer stupid questions from the press. No one playing for the Pats this year seemed very arrogant though. They've been exemplary on and off the field. Even friggin Moss!I'm just challenging some folks here to think past the "I don't like cheaters" silliness and marvel at their play. And no one comments on the fact that EVERY team watches signal calling? Jimmy Jones just said on Fox a minute ago that he NEVER showed anything during walk-throughs.Why not? Possibly because the other team has someone watching to gleen anything they can? Whyw ould he suspect that? BECAUSE HE DID IT TOO! THEY ALL DID IT.
